Only 50 miles away from Storrs, Connecticut in Medford, Massachusetts lies a women's college basketball powerhouse story just as compelling as UCONN. In fact, there's a UCONN Huskies connection here with Tufts here; Carla Berube was part of that beloved 1994-95 undefeated team as a bench player. This is her and Tufts Jumbos story in building it into a Division III powerhouse hungry for a title this season, especially in what she learned from Geno as a player and being into a coach:

I will cover the women's Division II and Division III tournaments shortly. The women's D3 is actually going on right now with the regional semis.

Quite possible that senior guard and Spain's silver medalists in Rio 2016 Leticia Romero and Florida St. can make the Final Four in Dallas in March--and definitely want it in their resume so they can taste it like with several other schools in recent years:
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-b...rst-final-four

Amanda Butler walks the plank as Florida's coach after 10 seasons and still has no championship hardware to show for it. Two of her best recent players, Eleanna Christinaki in December and Sydney Moss, a daughter of retired NFL star Randy Moss, both quit the team:
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-b...-amanda-butler

Marquette gets its first ever Big East women's title beating DePaul 86-78 last night at home in Milwaukee with predominately freshmen. One major highlight as Marquette's Natisha Hiedeman's 1st half buzzer-beater halfcourt shot; she never thought it would be good as hoisted it for ultimately 28 points. With that, Ohio St. reclaims the final host seed:
http://www.espn.com/ncw/recap?gameId=400945844
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-b...inal-host-seed

The always-so good mid-major and top seed #21 Wisconsin-Green Bay clinches its third consecutive Horizon League Tournament title in Detroit as part of the Motor City Madness over undersized hosts Detroit(-Mercy) Titans 62-52 and automatically into the Phoenix's 17th NCAA Tournament. Thanks to Allie LeClaire and Jessica Lindstrom. Well, whole Phoenix team used their size mismatch to their advantage:
http://www.espn.com/ncw/recap?gameId=400945817

Nothing against Laura Stockton, who surely learned the art of assists from her legendary dad John (as did her brother David who also went to Gonzaga), and Kiara Kudron. But last night at the West Coast Conference championship prior to the men's version in Las Vegas' Orleans Arena in a men's and women's championship symmetry with St. Mary's, it was definitely Gonzaga's Jill Barta's game with her career-high 37 points. 86-75. BTW, St. Mary's got two Aussies and a Kiwi on the roster:
http://www.espn.com/ncw/recap?gameId=400945837

Western Illinois Leathernecks back in the NCAA Tournament after 22 years away following their Horizon League championship win last night in Sioux Falls. Knocked off the IUPUI Jaguars 77-69:
http://www.espn.com/ncw/recap?gameId=400945816

No women's conference tournament champs crowned tonight for NCAA automatic bids in the women's game. But many conferences are starting to get underway with theirs or currently in progress. Or in the cases of the Missouri Valley, Southland, and Conference USA, start tomorrow.

This couldn't have happened like this last night, did it? Really? How in the hell was this supposed to? Connecticut's amazing winning streak. Ended at 111 last night in Dallas. By Mississippi St. and the diminutive Morgan William's shot. In OT. This can't be an early April Fool's joke. The. streak. is. dead

Is indeed a bittersweet weekend for Connecticut because for some good, if they hoped would be another very good weekend, Rebecca Lobo from the beloved undefeated 1995 Huskies team just now got enshrined. If that irony ever painfully reminds the UCONN Nation of that now-former unbeaten status.

Still trying to wrap my head around this monumental national semifinal upset Friday night in Dallas by Mississippi St. over a previous undefeated Connecticut. Tonight we got an all-SEC championship there with somebody walking away with its first ever title between South Carolina and Mississippi St. Do expect a thrilling game--and I picking Dawn Staley's South Carolina Gamecocks to finally grab the brass ring and get her that NCAA title that has eluded her for over 25 years since her All-American days at Virginia as a player. Will discuss more in the next few days.

South Carolina won their first ever championship in women's basketball early last night in Dallas 67-55 in an all-SEC championship game, and coach Dawn Staley finally wins her deferred national championship thanks to hometown star A'ja Wilson steeping up with teammate Allisha Grey injured. South Carolina won the lost 11 games against Mississippi St., including all three this season. Now the Gamecocks are truly elite:
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-b...a-championship
http://www.espn.com/womens-college-b...ionship-trophy

Curiously, "Itty Bitty" Morgan William, the fiesty darling of the Final Four, bizarrely got benched in the championship game's entire fourth quarter causing a stir as to why on Mississippi St. coach Vic Schaefer. Very possible that excitable high from ending UCONN's 111-game win streak wore them (including her) out, something she admitted postgame. Yes, she wasn't playing well. Yet it's a gamble Schaefer took--and lost. She deserved to be play in that last quarter for a significant amount. But it's so confusing Schaefer's "good kid" was lost faith in confusingly. Never mind, Schaefer says, Jazzmun Holmes was playing well:
