OK - thankyou to Venom for the start.
Here's what I've got so far stolen from the aforementioned website Aussiehoopsamerica.com - just for division 1 players.
I have tried to get the local clubs as correct as possible - please let me know any details I have missed or not got right - thanks to all those who have provided that feedback and which I have hopefully made correct.
I then intend to report on the results for these players, like is currently being done for the men - if I can make the time to do it properly;

Here is where the results are;

Have a look at the RPI standings

Nice one patm!

Trying to stay up to date with the D1 men and their daily results has kept me busy enough! I just didn't have enough time to chase up the women too - and as you can see it is a pretty decent list at that!

I'm looking forward to the updates.

Well here goes with the 1st attempt.
Apologies in advance for starting pretty brief.
But I've got to get my process working first - and I would really like to make this effort sustainable - rather than the big once off effort that inevitably founders on the rocks of competing priorities.
Keep the feedback and updates coming though (as every basketball administrator in this country should be saying "quality is number one priority");

If you want an idea of where evereyone fits in at this stage of the season according to their results and strength of schedule etc then you will have to have a look at the RPI standings (will be more relevant towards end of season)

Default Results for Thu 14th Jan 2010 (now with more details)

Thankyou to everyone for the further information.
I am pretty ignorant about much of this, but can someone please explain the difference between those 3 rankings that were previously posted. I think the first 2 are just revisions of the same thing? But what is the difference between them and the last one?
Looking at that last list I had absolutely no idea how big the college system really is. I have also added these RPI rankings against each of the school names in the first post of this thread.

Anyway, back to the purpose of this thread.
Here is my first full report of a day - no information means no box score available - is there somewhere else to get this information?
I will then go back and finish off the 13th.

Ardossi shot 10 for 15 from the floor and 9 for 12 at the foul line. The 6-foot-2 senior from Australia came in averaging team highs of 13.5 points and 6.8 rebounds. Ardossi scored seven points to lead a 15-5 run and the Demon Deacons couldn't get closer than six the rest of the way. Georgia Tech jumped to a 17-5 lead, with Ardossi and Sasha Goodlett each getting six points inside.

The AP poll is simply a poll from the Associated Press, it is updated every week. There is also the ESPN Coaches poll, see both HERE both only cover the top 25 spit up the occasional "head scratcher" selection.

The RPI is a creation that takes into account who you have played and the results and who your opponents have played and those results. See below for the official explanation, it is only worthwhile once the season is well underway and even then needs conference play well underway to provide any real info.

Quote - The Rating Percentage Index (RPI) has been used by the NCAA since 1984 to supplement the selection of at-large teams and the seeding of all teams for the NCAA women's basketball tournament. It is derived from three component factors: Div. I winning percentage (25%), schedule strength (50%); and opponent's schedule strength (25%). Games against non-Division I opponents are not used in calculating the RPI. - End quote

The RPI is good to refer to when you look at teams that seem to be world beaters sitting with win/loss records that look phenomenal yet unless they win their conference they do not get a gig to the NCAA tournament or if they do, end up with seedings of 13/14/15/16 so play 1/2/3/4 seeds in the first round and get whacked. HERE is last years bracket.

The conference RPI also gives some insights into the overall standard of games played and just how good a team is, eg apart from conference winners the top say ten conferences will provide most of the remaining invites to the NCAA tournament.

Okay here we go with the rankings. Casein posted the ranking from 2009 and 2010 - rankings are done weekly. There are two rankings, more commmonly referred to as 'polls'.

One is ESPN / USA Today, the other is done by the Associatd Press (AP). Both polls appoint a number of NCAA Head Coaches to vote on who they thing are the top 25 teams. One poll uses 40 coaches, the other uses 32 I think. These are generally the best guide as to who are the very top teams.

The third rankings listed by Casein is the RPI - Rating Percentage Index. Some brainic come up with it a few years back. It is a mathematical formula used to create rankings. It comprises three components
- teams win loss percentage (25%)
- strength of schedule (combined opponents win/loss percentage) (50%)
- opponenents strength of schedule (25%)

As with a mathematical formulas in events that contain variables -i.e humans - its not perfect, but basically the only ranking system of teams below the top 40 or so who get votes in the above mentioned polls.

Some people use RPI to compare colleges, this shouldn't be the only factor used whne doing this, as the strength of each conference is far more important than the RPI ranking whne comparing colleges in my opinion. Conference RPI rankings can alos be found, but as these change with each game and season it can be tough to folow.

Basically, there are six 'MAJOR' (BCS) conferences - Big Ten, Big XII, Big East, ACC, SEC and Pac 10 (everything in college sports has to do with football - these six have the most money all due to football and therefore are the strongest conferences), after that I would rate the WAC, WCC, Atlantic 10, Mountain West, Conf USA, Missouri Valey, Sunbelt and Colonial in no particular order.

Hopefully this points you in the right direction. As you said, you are only learning new things about the college system....so are all of us.

Thankyou both for the info (even if you are in the same room .
I have understood some of it, and can now continue to refer to your inof as more pieces fall into place for me.

I was also wondering if this is the only place to get the results from?
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncw/scoreboard
Why I ask, is there seems to be so few box scores available for the 29 schools and 40 players currently on the above list.
And then that said, I am trying to build a system to make this process as efficient as possible to ensure that I keep doing it every day - so the more sites I have to go to, the less chance that I will sustain the effort - but then quality if always the first priority, in this case, quality of information.

Once again lots of games seem to have no box scores - am I missing something? - do I need to go somewhere else to find them?
OK, I have just gone to the school sites and got the details for the 3 games on this day - it works - but it certainly takes some time.

Also, I am deliberately not interpreting the data, am just copy and pasting, and then adding the references (i.e. fg, tp, etc - there is a legend in the 1st post above) - and if an article has been written I will include any comments about the Australian players - does that work ok for those reading it? - I am trying to get a balance between not taking too much of my time - versus making it useful to others.

Will probably need to go to each individual college site to get the boxscores.
Just a minor change to what you have listed above.

Thankyou - I was just experimenting with that at the moment.
It's a shame because with 29 current universities it will now be much harder to make it efficient and sustainable.

Do what I do for the D1 men...visit ESPN and just scan the results for the colleges where you know the Aussies play at.

If you're using the ESPN college scoreboard (http://scores.espn.go.com/ncw/scoreboard) you need to change where it says "sort by" as it defaults to "top 25". You can select "All" which will give you all results and box's for the day.

Thanks for the reply. I have worked that bit out after some initial confusion.
But if you look at the last days results - Fri 15th Jan - of the 13 games played - only 1 has a box score - all the rest just have the game score.
Or am I missing something obvious?

No, I think, unfortunately, it looks like ESPN doesnt provide box's for all of the games for womens hoops. That sucks. I've looked at a couple of random schools own sights, and unless they play against one of the big schools, you dont seem to get a box

Here at the NCAA site they seem to have the box scores for all games but not in the same format as ESPN - and it doesn't look as nicely laid out or as easy to work with - but at least they are all there - so I'll give it a go.

I didn't realise that ESPN don't always post the box scores for women's games. The next point of reference I sometimes use is the NCAA box scores...but you have already worked that part out

You can also look up games that are on GameTracker, unfortunately not all Colleges use it or will not be listed for whatever reason..

GameTracker click on the game in one of the four windows to see a full set of game stats, drag a game from those listed in the top pane and drop it on one of the four panes to view that games stats..rememebr many games will not show up in Gametracker, its unfortunate, as you can watch a game "live" using gametracker..

There is also the Yahoo results service...I think they all get their data from the ncaa site anyway..

Default Have updated the stats for previous days

Just a note to let you know that I have hunted down and updated all the box scores for the previous days that I had posted (above).

I'm about to try a full day from scratch now.
But if it is still as laborious as I have found it so far, I doubt I will be able to continue doing this each day for however many months of the year

Well that's it for today and I think it is very much unsustainable.
I have got it about as efficient as I can manually but there is no fast way.

Thanks for that.
Sundays results weren't to painful. It got it done in less than an hour. However I was hoping to get it down to 15-20mins. It seems like Saturdays are going to be the bad ones.
I would also like to present the info in a nicer way, more like what you are doing with the mens. However the further I move away from straight "copy and paste" the more time it will take, and my time is my biggest issue at the moment. The poor format of the NCAA.com data takes more time to copy and paste and looks less nice.

Thankyou for taking the time to post that info. I will have a closer look when I can make the time. At the moment my priority is to each day try and update all results for all NCAA div 1 games with Australian women playing. So I have to have one place to go to for everything. And at the moment it looks like my best option is NCAA.com.
