Very bad news: the Now Deservedly Crumbling Evil Laker Empire NBDL Chapter sadly wins the West over the Austin Spurs 117-104
http://dleague.nba.com/games/20160420/ladaus/

So it will be 4-0 Sioux Falls and the NDCELE NBDL Chapter for the NBDL Finals starting Sunday, April 24 in El Segundo, California. Go Skyforce!

This year's NBDL Finals that started Sunday night in Sioux Falls showcases the #1 defense versus one of the top offenses in the league. Right now, Game 2 could end things as the Skyforce, one of the few long-running minor league pro basketball franchises, have 1-0 series lead over the NDCELE NBDL Chapter in Sioux Falls. Rodney McGruder goes off for 30 points in Game 1:

Ladies and gentlemen, mates, and all that, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Miami Heat's NBDL affiliate and definitely one of the more successful minor league pro basketball franchises around, wins the 2016 NBDL Finals over the Now Deservedly Crumbling Evil Laker Empire NBDL Chapter in a 2-1 series in Sioux Falls, capping off their record season. They did what they're supposed to do when it comes to the NDCELE:

Clippers are interested in bringing back NBDL basketball to Bakersfield after the Suns bought control of the Bakersfield Jam and moved them to Northern Arizona. Or actually have it even closer than Bakersfield, in accordance to Doc Rivers and his staff's wishes, which gets increasingly likely--Anahiem Arsenal resurrected, anyone? But it isn't likely the Clippers proposed affiliate team will be assembled in time for the 2016-17 season
http://upsidemotor.com/2016/04/15/d-...-17-affiliate/
http://upsidemotor.com/2016/05/31/nb...gue-affiliate/

Milwaukee certainly has no shortage of suitors and investors within the state of Wisconsin for the Bucks' new NBDL affiliate slated for a 2017 debut. Oshkosh (new arena needed), La Crosse (arena upgrades at the La Crosse Center a must), Green Bay, Madison, and Racine are all under consideration. Oshkosh hasn't tasted minor pro basketball since the demise of the CBA's Wisconsin Flyers around 30 years ago. La Crosse at this period had the Catbirds that moved from Louisville and lasted from 1985 until 1994 with two CBA titles under their name. Also had the Bobcats. And if you may recall, La Crosse was seriously considered to be the new home for the Arkansas RimRockers over a decade ago before it fell through as the franchise withered and died:

No Orlando Magic NBDL for Jacksonville, as presumed. Or the nearby Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. It's between Kissimmee or Lakeland that will be the home of the Orlando Magic's planned 2017 franchise:

Bob MacKinnon replaces Nick Van Exel, who since took an assistant coach's job with the Memphis Grizzlies, as Texas Legends coach. Before that, he's coaching the Dallas Mavs Summer League Team in Orlando. He coached the Colorado 14ERS to the NBDL title back in 2009:

No Green Bay Bucks NBDL action as the city hoped to be a Milwaukee affiliate:

Last time we saw Darrick Martin was when he conducted the UCLA Bruins basketball radio analysis for his alma mater. Now the Vancouver Grizzlies backup PG who poked MJ to one of his incredible performances at his team's expense just got named as the new Reno Bighorns head coach:

6 Erie BayHawks are on this summer's Orlando Magic Summer League roster:

The NDBL 2016-17 reports will come this season and will be more frequent at this time.

First Fun While It Lasted NBDL entry in quite a while with it briefly checking out one of the 8 original US Southeastern-based NBDL franchises in the Asheville Altitude that moved to Tulsa to become the Tulsa 66ERS in 2005 due to declining attendance every season at the Asheville Civic Center for 5 seasons, even when it won 2 titles in the last two seasons there. Now the Oklahoma City Blue playing in its third season in OKC as the Thunder's affiliate:

Latest Fun While It Lasted NDBL entry Idaho Stampede actually started out you may remember as a very stable CBA entry until it left for the NBDL with Dakota Wizards and the Colorado 14ERS and was very successful in it afterwards playing in both Boise and Nampa with a 2008 title with Randy Livingstone. Of those three, Idaho stayed the longest without moving until this offseason. Was also Antoine Walker's last pro stop for two seasons after infamously burning through $108 million. The Utah Jazz, wishing for its affiliate to be based much closer to Salt Lake City after the Orem-based Utah Flash's demise in the face of ownership promises to stay there, brought them from Idaho and rechristen them as the Salt Lake City Stars starting this season:
http://www.funwhileitlasted.net/2016...daho-stampede/

NBDL 2016-17 affiliates:

Maine Red Claws--Boston
Toronto Raptors905--Toronto
Northern Arizona Suns--Phoenix
Ft. Wayne Mad Ants--Indiana
Santa Cruz Warriors--Golden St.
Canton Charge--Cleveland
Reno Bighorns--Sacramento
Austin Spurs-San Antonio
Texas Legends--Dallas
Delaware 87ERS--Philadelphia
Westchester Knicks--New York
Long Island Nets--Brooklyn
Greensboro Swarm--Charlotte
Windy City Bulls--Chicago
Rio Grande Valley Vipers--Houston
Sioux Falls Skyforce--Miami
Erie Bayhawks--Orlando
Grand Rapids Drive--Detroit
Salt Lake City Stars--Utah
Iowa Energy--Memphis
Oklahoma City Blue--Oklahoma City
NDCELE NBDL Chapter--NDCELE

Arena funding for the Milwaukee Bucks' new Racine NBDL entry is an issue that can seriously delay the Bucks' planned 2017-18 entry. Milwaukee themselves have not been heard from lately:

After 8 seasons in Erie, Pennsylvania and being a full-time Orlando Magic affiliate since 2014, the Erie BayHawks announce it will relocate to Lakeland, Florida to the Lakeland Events Center in 2017 and may likely be called the Florida Magic, thus fufilling a longtime Orlando wish. Nearby Winter Haven will house the practice facility. The BayHawks are best known for having Jeremy Lin and Blake Ahearn play through the city. Pretty much continues a trend of NBA teams bringing their NBDL affiliates closer proximity to the parent club, which means we're not that far away from perhaps having Memphis' Iowa Energy eventually move to, say, Arkansas. Does leave a NBDL void in the Keystone State:
http://www.nba.com/magic/lakeland/press-release
http://arenadigest.com/2016/12/15/or...m-to-lakeland/

Evolution of the latest NBDL expansion including the Atlanta Hawks new team based in suburban College Park in 2019 and Lakeland taking over from Erie:
http://dleague.nba.com/expansion/

NBDL will also experiment with 4/5-person referee crews on a 9-game trial starting on Boxing Day with Westchester-Long Island at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. All games in fact will involve Long Island Nets home matches:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-deve...referee-crews/

Belatedly, the 2016 NBDL Draft in 6 rounds starting with the Erie BayHawks taking Stanford's Anthony Brown with the first overall pick. Delaware picked my friend and Toronto native Grandy Glaze in the third round out of Grand Canyon and formerly of Saint Louis:

But all is certainly not quite lost for Erie after imminently losing the BayHawks to Lakeland, Florida after this season. Though challenges in having a team geographically away from an affiliate's NBA mother ship exist and make it hard (even possibly hooking up with those NBA franchises currently without one), Erie still hopes to be in the NBDL game in replacing the BayHawks. Maybe if Pittsburgh somehow gets an NBA expansion team:
http://arenadigest.com/2016/12/19/er...erie-bayhawks/
http://www.goerie.com/opinion/201612...outlook-gloomy

Hottest team in the NBDL right now gotta be the Pacific's Santa Cruz Warriors, currently on a 5-game winning streak for the 2015 NBDL champs. The Grand Rapids Drive aren't that far behind with 4 consecutive wins at this time over in the Central. Ft. Wayne, Toronto Raptors 905, and Sioux Falls are the best teams in terms of winning percentage at .769 with the Iowa Energy, Memphis' affiliate up in Des Moines, being the worst team at 2-13, a worse record than even the expansion teams Long Island, Windy City, and Greensboro. And the Energy lost 9 in a row.

Just so that I won't forget about this season's divisional realignment:

ATLANTIC DIVISION

WESTCHESTER KNICKS
MAINE RED CLAWS
DELAWARE 87ERS
GREENSBORO SWARM
ERIE BAYHAWKS
LONG ISLAND NETS

CENTRAL DIVISION
FORT WAYNE MAD ANTS

WINDY CITY BULLS
CANTON CHARGE

WESTERN CONFERENCE
PACIFIC DIVISION
NORTHERN ARIZONA SUNS
SANTA CRUZ WARRIORS
RENO BIGHORNS
SALT LAKE CITY STARS
NOW DESERVEDLY CRUMBLING EVIL EMPIRE NBDL CHAPTER

SOUTHWEST DIVISION
SIOUX FALLS SKYFORCE
RIO GRANDE VALLEY VIPERS
TEXAS LEGENDS
OKLAHOMA CITY BLUE
AUSTIN SPURS
IOWA ENERGY

This past Saturday, Joel Bolomboy, who bounced in-between with the Utah Jazz and its affiliate Salt Lake City Stars with scarce playing time with the Jazz, bested his NBDL career stats for the Salt Lake City Stars with a near triple double of 28 points, 19 boards, and 6 blocks in the 103-95 home win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers:
http://www.standard.net/Utah-Jazz/20...ity-Stars.html

Past and present Sioux Falls Skyforce players are thriving in both the NBA and NBDL following its first NBDL championship this season. The Skyforce was the only team to have three of its players make opening day NBA rosters with Rodney McGruder, Jarnell Stokes, and DeAndre Liggins. Briante Weber could join them in callups:

We're now into Day 3 in the 2013 NBDL Showcase up in Mississauga, Ontario's Hershey Centre, the home of the Toronto Raptors 906, in the Mississauga portion of Toronto with all 22 NBDL teams converging in that city to play games in front of NBA GMs and player personnel executives from all 30 NBA teams. There's lots of local ballers in the Peel Region along with Brampton to its north. I'll fill this up more extensively tomorrow with lots of more detailed article links. Day 3 just got its first game completed with Westchester and Erie (soon to be Lakeland) having played:

Day 1 recap:

More new developments have come along for the NBDL fast and furious.

The Memphis Grizzlies announced they too bought an expansion franchise for next season and part ways with the Iowa Energy after this one. This could open the door for Iowa to eventually hook up with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Memphis' new entry will call Southaven, Mississippi home with the 8400-seat Landers Center being the home venue with 24 home games, already home to the SPHL's Mississippi River Kings. Right in the Mid-South. That's 20 miles south from Memphis. This continues a trend of NBDL affiliate franchises being close to the home team. Ownership is already named with Memphis owning it, and the current Iowa personnel like the GM and coach will head to Southaven after this season. Name and logo TBA:
http://www.memphisflyer.com/Beyondth...-the-mid-south

http://www.nba.com/grizzlies/news/nb...memphis-170124
http://www.desototimes.com/sports/gr...8f3cd36f9.html
http://www.memphisdleague.com

Actually, the T-Wolves already just purchased the Energy and will soon take control and remain there in Des Moines after, from a Minneapolis Star-Tribune article, reportedly considering buying its own with Rochester, MN, Fargo, North Dakota, and right in the Twin Cities (like OKC does with its own) as locales and even buying out Miami's current affiliate Sioux Falls Skyforce:
http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/minn...es-iowa-energy
http://www.desmoinesregister.com/sto...ergy/96960772/
http://www.startribune.com/timberwol...nes/411556695/

It may be changing locales and identity branding in the Greater Los Angeles Area next season. But it's STILL a low down and dirty part of the NDCELE!!

Starting next season the NBDL (or the D-League) will rename itself as the NBA Gatorade League or the NBA G-League, the first time a US/Canada pro sports league will utilize a corporate sponsor as part of its brand name:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-deve...torade-league/
http://news.sportslogos.net/2017/02/...torade-league/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg8G5CRTNtE

Best teams right now in the NBDL are by far the Mississauga Raptors905, Maine Red Claws, Sioux Falls Skyforce, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Oklahoma City Blue, and sadly the NDCELE NBDL Chapter (best team sadly because of its winning percentage). Iowa, soon to hook up with Minnesota following this season, is still the worst NBDL team currently sitting on 8 wins. Grand Rapids Drive have the longest active winning streak with 3 wins in a row, but it's the Raptors905 that been the hottest lately. Long Island Nets have the longest losing streak with 3. Lots of the NBDL teams are hovering around in the ballpark of .500.

Saturday afternoon on February 18 starting at 1:30pm US/Canada/Mexico CT will have the NBDL All-Star Game presented by Kumho Tire, NBA D-League Three-Point Contest, and the NBA D-League Slam Dunk presented by Verizon Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans all on NBA TV as it goes on its own all-star break. Will catch up with some stuff and fill out some earlier posts very soon.

Regular season's over. Playoffs began Tuesday with that rare simultaneous day the NBA and NBDL are both off today. In the West, Oklahoma City Blue take on the Santa Cruz Warriors and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers face the NDCELE NBDL Chapter. The Eastern Conference has the NBDL's best team Raptors905 seeing the Canton Charge, and the Maine Red Claws seeing the Ft. Wayne Mad Ants. Ft. Wayne and Maine start things tomorrow as the only series on that day. OKC vs. Santa Cruz and Raptors905 and Canton kick off Wednesday. Finally, the NDCELE and Rio Grande Valley start Thursday. All games can be seen on Facebook Live and ESPNU:
http://dleague.nba.com/playoffs2017/

These are the plans of the new NBDL arenas for next season in the soon-to-be G-League that Arena Digest reports:

One series is now over. Another could be over with two others that definitely will. All those 3 on Monday night. Remember, this is a best-of-3 series here

The Raptors905, the best team in the NBDL, sweeps the Canton Charge, to end their East semifinal series 2-0. Canton, making their 6th consecutive NBDL playoff appearance, did make the Mississauga Raptors team have their hands full with competitive games. But couldn't prevent the sweep--or stop Axel Toupane and Brady Heslip:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-dlea...canton-charge/

After Maine's thrilling OT win in Ft. Wayne in Game 1, the Red Claws can take it back home with possible NBDL MVP Abel Nader ready to nail it Monday night. Not if perhaps Tar Heels legend Tyler Hansbrough have something to say about it:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-d-le...ayne-mad-ants/

Just like their big brothers in the Thunder, the OKC Blue version is enjoying another wildly successful season like with three separate 5-game winning streaks with Billy Doinovan's coaching protoge at the helm and Dakari Johnson and Daniel Hamilton shining. But Santa Cruz winners of some NBDL championships is very dangerous as Jabari Brown, Cleanthony Early and James Southerland sparked the run, while ex-Mizzou point guard Phil Pressey and sharpshooter Scott Wood have shined season-long:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-d-le...cruz-warriors/

Hopefully Rio Grande Valley will put end to potential misery tomorrow night with their known high-powered offensive attack with a sweep:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/nba-d-le...rs-rgv-vipers/

So...

Great! We never need to worry about the NDCELE NBDL Chapter anymore for the rest of the season! Thanks Vipers!

Now it's RGV and OKC for the West NBDL title as Raptors905 still awaits its East opponent:

Maine Red Claws were absolutely nothing to the favored Raptors905, either in Portland or in Mississauga. The Raptors905 made sweep work on them and its Canadian coach Scott Morrison this afternoon:

Toronto Raptors905 awaits the winner of Oklahoma City/Rio Grande Valley with the series tied with the deciding Game 3 tomorrow in OKC:

The New Orleans Pelicans apparently are seeking a NBDL affiliate location. And Jackson, Mississippi is one of them with Gulf South candidates in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and Louisiana to scout for the 2018-19 season tip-off. Could the fact that Memphis is putting theirs upstate near the Tennessee border in Southaven work against Mississippi's capital city?
http://www.jacksonfreepress.com/news...cans-nba-team/
http://arenadigest.com/2017/04/19/ci...gue-franchise/

UPDATE: According to Justin Verrier's Twitter account, the candidate cities, more specifically, are Jackson, Gulfport/Biloxi, Pensecola, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Alexandria, Lafayette, Lake Charles, St. Tammany Parish, and Mobile:
https://twitter.com/JustinVerrier/st...leans-d-league

More on Mobile, Alabama's candidacy and the opportunity to save the aging Mobile Civic Center with the NBDL as a tenant:

Rio Grande Valley Vipers it is to face the Toronto Raptors905 for the NBDL title starting Sunday night in McAllen, Texas at the Dodge Arena for Game 1:
http://dleague.nba.com/news/2017-nba...valley-vipers/

Been thinking about this new New Orleans Pelicans G-League affiliate location. My guess is it will be placed inside, naturally, the Pelican State. Putting in Baton Rouge could cause it to get lost within all that LSU madness. Shreveport/Bossier City has so much experience with pro teams since the 1960-1970s be it in pretender or minor leagues. Last had the ABA's Mavericks, who were incredibly successful on-court and operated well. But the Mavs couldn't always get the fans consistently enough before ditching for Owensboro, Kentucky and the PBL. Will residents there in Shreveport embrace this one? Pensecola, Florida is a little too distant, despite experience with the CBA's Pensecola Tornados from Toronto. Gulfport/Biloxi is more than far enough from Memphis' Lakehaven and would fit nicely in the Gulf sense. Don't know about St. Tammany Parish. Think that's out. Is the SW Louisiana Rajun' Cajuns and the Louisiana Lowgators ECHL willing to accept the NBDL/G-League inside the newly renovated Cajundome in Lafayette? May play home games whenever the team's away.

Short profile on the short-lived Florida Flame that were based in Ft. Meyers, Florida. Actually played home games in nearby Estero at the Germain Arena coming from as the Columbus Lowgators. Dennis Johnson, who should've tasted more permanent head coaching were it not for his tragic death, coached them in the first season that was mediocre with only Smush Parker earning a callup to Phoenix in 2004-2005 from the Flames. Second season was better with former NBA All-Star Jeff Malone (Washington Bullets, Philadelphia 76ERS, Utah Jazz) replacing DJ only to fall in the single elimination playoff round to eventual champs Alberquerque. Team folded a decade ago. NBDL haven't returned to Florida until Orlando created the Lakeland Magic:

Speaking of the Lakeland Magic, this is the new logo:

First off in this post, congrats to the Mississauga-based Raptors905 on winning the 2017 NBDL Finals title against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers that went the whole series after losing Game 1 in McAllen, Texas! Great run for Jerry Stackhouse as head coach in his first year there and winning NBDL Coach of the Year with the best record overall at 39-11! Several Raptors, included a few who dabbled with the NBDL affiliate and even Raptors superfan Nav Bhatia, were all in attendance at the Hershey Centre to cheer them on and offer support for including one. Rookie Pascal Siakam was the NBDL Finals MVP:

The Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario. Wow, that's an weird name for a pro basketball team (agua caliente means "hot water" in Spanish, actually name's a casino resort). Then again, it's a first and very unique in top-level US pro basketball--NBA-related, that is--to have a sponsor as part of its name. Coming to the G-League next season presented by the Los Angeles Clippers with Oshkosh (Milwaukee), Erie (Atlanta), and Southaven (Memphis). Not the first time the Los Angeles Area had a name like this because there was the Mighty Ducks of Anahiem when Disney brought them out in 1993 (now just the Anahiem Ducks) and the Los Angeles Angels of Anahiem. And, no, Ontario is not the large and most populous Canadian province where Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, London, Kingston, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Windsor, North Bay, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph, and Peterborough are. This Ontario is roughly 50 miles away from Los Angeles:

We long know and expect that NBA players certainly weren't going to suit up for the FIBA Americas qualifying games under FIBA's new competition system. Should still be in good hands for qualifying to China in 2019 with Team USA by the NBDL players because of the tremendous American basketball depth:

Another NBDL success story in progress during the NBA Playoffs in Jonathan Simmons from the Austin Spurs:

Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, the NBDL/G-League's record 26th franchise, and its parent Los Angeles Clippers club present the logo and wordmark set. Actually, it look far better than current Clippers logo. Press release at the second link explains the Agua Caliente name origins, and they will play its 24 home games at Ontario’s Citizens Business Bank Arena, which is located 40 miles east of Los Angeles that opened in 2008 as the largest arena in the Inland Empire and is also home to the Ontario Reign AHL ice hockey, concerts, and family events. No waves for the parent logo too since Clippers has associations with the sea? Still it sucks for Clippers fans to see that its affiliate has an even better logo than them--and no black involved:

With 26 teams now in the G-League, don't the league thinks it's about time now to expand the playoff format to maybe 16 at least? First perhaps it may need to perform some serious divisional realignment.

In other NBDL news, Steve Gansey returns as Ft. Wayne Mad Ants head coach next season:

Canton Charge has three of its players earning All-League honors in Quinn Cook (First Team All-NBA Development League), Eric Moreland (NBA Development League All-Defensive Team, Third Team All-NBA Development League), and John Holland (Third Team All NBA-Development League) all recognized for their outstanding play on the court this past season:

John Holland also gets the 2016-17 NBDL Impact Player of the Year Award:

Steve's brother Mike Gansey wins the 2016-17 NBDL Executive of the Year Award for Canton through peer voting:

Bob MacKinnon agrees to a 2-year contract extension with the Texas Legends in the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. He's coached the Colorado 14ERS in his first season in the NBDL to the 2008-09 NBDL championship:

NBDL champions Raptors905's Edy Tavares was named 2016-17 NBDL Defensive Player of the Year:

His coach Jerry Stackhouse wins the 2016-17 NBDL Coach of the Year:

Of the six cities still in the running for the New Orleans Pelicans G-League team, Shreveport, my pick for it, considers building a new multimillion dollar downtown arena for the affiliate and not the CenturyLink Center that's already existing:
