Default NBA Courts, Logos, and Jerseys Thread

So just yesterday, I visited Chris Creamer's brilliant sports logo thread. I stumbled upon what should be interesting topics for us to discuss. We already discuss the Hardwood Classics jerseys several years ago that was very popular here--and we still could on the upcoming NBA 2013-14 thread. But for now I want to bring attention here about the NBA courts anthology the aforementioned Chris Creamer thread posted among the fourms. We see nowdays teams changing courts every 2-3 years

When you see the evolution of the NBA courts over the decades from various teams, you're seeing the important reflection of the NBA's growth. When many NBA franchises grew out of small halls, armories, and even high schools in the 1940-1950s along with America's manifest destiny with the West, NBA teams were playing in venues that were regarded as "civic facilities", arenas owned and operated by the city or sometimes the city's conventional bureau in question that only regarded and hosted the occasional sports event like the NBA in addition to concerts, circuses, moster truck rallies, pro wrestling, conventions or anything that would fill at least 10,000+ in a day for a year. Revenues weren't as exclusive to the teams who used them. There were lease issues and constant struggles for desirable arena dates, a situation that led to the Buffalo Braves to move to San Diego, for example. Wasn't until starting the late 1980s that, with NBA expansion starting and gaining greater popularity with aims to globalize its brand and boosting its revenues, teams started building their own arenas and thus becoming anchoring tennants, keeping a majority of the revenue. This arena boom with the great 1990s pro sports explosion prompted the need for a more upscale arena should tailored and codified. Now a lot of US and Canadian cities have at least 2-3 arenas in each of them.

Some of the older courts looked like they had the NBA logos tacked on. Not all the courts fit same mold with the emerging standardization. A recent development. The Orlando Magic, for example, was the first NBA team to have NBA font and logo on its court in its first season back in 1989 before it became compulsory. By the mid-1990s, the NBA and other pro sports leagues in North America with their teams saw themselves as brands in general as they matured into businesses attracting corporate support. Guess it was only natural that NBA teams saw them as brands and placing value on that, not just the on-court product, and make the courts reflect and match that brand value. This may explain why to some of us here these courts you'll see look messy.

The thread you're seeing is far from a complete project that Kodrinsky is awesomely doing with help and corrections from Ralphierce. I use it for refreshing my memories at times. Some teams like Vancouver, San Diego, Memphis, Cleveland, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Seattle, Orlando, Washington, Dallas, Utah, and New York aren't yet on here. Also some court designs you'll also are fictional like a few from Houston. He's taking his time on this. It's well worth it for periodical looks!
http://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/...ourt-database/

In a related story, Milwaukee is paying tribute to its famed Ralph Indiana-designed pop art Milwaukee Bucks signature court with the two on-court giant Ms from 1976-88 in their MECCA days with a new design this upcoming season at the BMO Harris Bradley Center (without the light blue and yellow colors the Bucks shared with Marquette on that court in the Al McGuire era).

That's going to be the Toronto 2016 NBA All-Star Game logo?! For the first time one of the NBA's showcases is coming to Canada and thus outside the US. I expected something more elaborate with a promninent maple leaf and the iconic CN tower included to rep Canada. But it didn't. Resembles more like a font to me. Rapper Drake's going to be the Toronto Raptors' global ambassador and will help out on the upcoming makeover to coincide with the Raptors' 20th anniversary, and no thankfully, Toronto won't change its name during that season. I just think the Raptors logo needs some polish from its core one.
http://news.sportslogos.net/2013/09/...-logo-colours/

LA Clippers join the short-sleeved jersey club with the updated return of the Nautical flags that spell out LAC on the shorts from the San Diego Clippers days (1979-83). Now how about a logo updating? The Clippers had that syle since 1982-83.

NBA could allow its players use of their nicknames on their jerseys for one game. Not as outlandish or minor league/XFL-ish as some may think. The NBA hadn't done that in many years since Pistol Pete Maravich had his Pistol nickname on the back of his New Orleans Jazz jersey. Or go back to the rival ABA in the 1970s defying the NBA establishment with "Ice" and Dr. J" even on warmups.

New York Knicks officially show off their alternate orange jerseys. Something the Knicks should've done years ago.

Finalist looks for the fan-made Dallas Mavericks uniforms for voting. Wish there was more green as a majority colo(u)r like there was in the earlier days from 1981-90 among them. But I do like the Dallas skyline duds.

Like the short-sleeved NBA jersey craze right now? If so, you'll love what the NBA has in store upon Christmas Day with 5 games coming up then for 10 teams scheduled. Boston won't be playing then, but it can be a sign it'll move towards more NBA teams as we go along.

I can live without them, especially those coming up for Christmas. But a few of the shirt ones so far do look better than others.

Makes you wonder if the Knicks would eventually banish their new orange alternate duds next season or even this season with the Knicks now 0-6 in them (alternate unis must be worn a maximum of 6 games under NBA rules):

Charlotte Hornets' logo and workmark modified return is set for Saturday, December 21 at halftime during the Bobcats home game versus the lowly Utah Jazz

DeAndre Jordan loses his Los Angeles script wordmark from his royal blue Clippers road jersey deep in the paint with Philadelphia's Tony Wroten! Why was it glued on and not stitched? Does illustrate the quality of these jersey and might head towards sublimination.

Toronto going black and gold? Just an option for rebranding but could be a reality if rapper and Raptors' global ambassador Drake perhaps has his way with the hope of emulating Jay-Z and his Brooklyn Nets. Wouldn't like that. But as the sole Canadian NBA team, there's got to be some red for Canada. BTW, Drake Night's January 11 against--you guessed it!--Brooklyn!

Black and gold works best under the right circumstances, which is usual. Just not with Toronto, IMO.

That popular Atlanta Hawks Pac-Man-like logo that never really went away thanks to the retro apparel is coming back in an updated form:

Portland Trail Blazers had their fans to vote on three new two-toned basketball court options for next season at the ModoBank Center in late March. I like the second option:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/03/...o-toned-court/

Only the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls donned the green St. Patrick's Day NBA uniforms this season--and they were short-sleeved! Making them worse (though I do Boston's St. Patrick's Day past jersey better):

Sacramento gets ready to celebrate 30 years in the California capital city, the longest tenure in a city for the entire Royals/Kings franchise, with an anniversary patch logo bringing back the royal blue and red that hasn't been seen since the 1994 logo rebranding (or rather the 20th anniversary version)

Ready to take a look back at all the unorthodox, and sometimes jarring, looks of NBA uniforms and logos from the 1990s that are now making a retro cool comeback? From the seemingly ubiquitous and popular teal starting with the Charlotte Hornets in 1988 to the now-commonplace third/alternate jerseys to the giant logo jerseys looks from Toronto, Atlanta, and Milwaukee to the radical and panned looks with New Jersey and Philadelphia. All where the 1990s happened!

The NBA ball gets a Twitter handle stamped on it with Adam Silver's signature, a first for a major pro sports league to include social media in this way. It's tiny and barely noticeable. Will be on NBA Live 15 and very likely NBA2K15:

6 new NBA courts to take a look at this upcoming season with a potential 7th from New Orleans if approved. Like the Toronto and Portland (the fans' choice--and mine) ones. Atlanta's an improvement and glad the updated classic Pac-Man-like Hawks logo is used, which we first saw with the NBA 2K15 video game, though I wish the primary logo instead was kept at the center with the former near the key. Also in the same NBA video game realm, San Antonio completely eliminates the whole Spurs logo wordmark and just opt for the large standalone spur image logo at center court. Wishn that didn't happen but will live it. Sacramento's is too much purple (Prince might like it, though) but might have to do with moving to the new arena under construction. Washington's? Not so much. Commonplace now to see both the website address and Twitter handles along the upper baseline
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/09/...ds-new-courts/

Grantland's Zack Lowe has his 2014-15 NBA court power rankings. Maybe I'm biased but the Suns court should be ranked--and like it over the previous two inceptions it had. Should be ranked higher. Does recognize the reversible quirk with the U and N at center court. Oh HEEEEELLL NO! He put that narcisstic court from our longstanding oppressors at #1?!

New Orleans publicly displays for the first time its new red alternate uniforms this afternoon, includes the four upcoming home dates it'll be worn through Twitter. Usually takes at least three season before doing the alternate route. Some Madri Gras colo(u)rs nod would help, though. Perhaps it would look too busy. Now we're waiting for the new Pelicans court.

Across the border in Texas, get your new Dallas Mavericks fan-alternate skyline jersey winner from Geoff Case! But where's the Reunion Tower, the one thing that makes Dallas' skyline distinctive? Trademark and likeness rights issue?

Cleveland Cavs' new court at the Q in time for the Wine and Gold Scrimmage
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/10/cava...w-court-design
https://twitter.com/cavs/status/5173...157376/photo/1

Some notable differences from last year:
-Center court logo now has an outline and shadow
-Perimeter of court is now navy blue
-2-tone court
-City skyline silhoutte
-No more C/Sword logos inside 3 points arc
-"CLEVELAND" word mark

Would liked to keep the C/Sword logos kept inside the 3 point arc but maybe that would make it become too much and busy with what's already there now with the Cleveland skyline silhoutte. Plus with a lot of NBA courts over the previous decade, I'm not a fan of the two-toned woodstained courts like what the Cavaliers had done. The Cavs had at least 6 court changes since 2003, seems too much in such a time frame up to now. Navy at the perimeters strongly hints navy alternate uniforms. Miami, by contrast, hadn't really changed much, likely no more than twice since moving into the American Airlines Arena in 1999.

New Orleans brings forth its new home court for the Pelicans with a bold subtlety. Actually had to get special permission from the NBA for this:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/10/...an-within-arc/

Toronto brings forth their 20th anniversary jersey patches with purple, the jagged silver pinstripes and raptor skeleton claw, celebrating 20 years in Toronto:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/09/...h-anniversary/

Toronto also says it will play select home games in their notoriously cartoony yet creative and cutting edge purple road inaugural season jerseys (1995-99) this upcoming season as part of their 20th anniversary:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/03/...nto-once-more/

Houston Rockets show off their Mandarin Chinese alternate sleeved jerseys for the Chinese New Year that Chinese NBA fans will appreciate with ever wanting to maintain Chinese ties since Yao. We may see the Rockets design future alternate jerseys next few seasons:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/09/...y-this-season/

Orlando goes sleeved too with pinstripes--and it looks like pajamas (US/Canada spelling here) or pyjamas:

Get ready for this year's installment of the NBA alternate Christmas Day jerseys. No more short-sleeved and chrome logos but will have first names on the back instead of typically last ones:

Guess we'll discuss NBA arenas too since we do talk about NBA courts after all.

Plans are afoot for a new Milwaukee arena with the new owner, previous owner US senator Herb Kohl being involved. BMO (Bank of Montreal) Harris Bradley Center, opened in 1988, is leaking and aging rapidly. Reportedly, this proposed new area built near the Bradley Center and the UW-Milwaukee Arena, the Bucks' original home, will have the smallest-capacity in the NBA. It should at least be comparable to Bradley Center's.

Yesterday, the NBA unvieled its uniforms for the upcoming 2015 NBA All-Star Game at New York's Madison Square Garden. You think with the NBA All-Star Weekend being back in New York, right at the league's headquarters, it would make quite a splash with them. Instead, they went towards the most generic outset of sports uniforms with XL numbering...but there's a twist: NBA All-Stars will have their entire names on the back and the 5 distinct stars repping each of the NYC boroughs. Perhaps it's the whole idea in comparision with past ASG unis to be more subtle like up front and turn it on out back. At least put East and West on them. Still a 5 borough ASG jersey look would be more appealing IMO:
http://news.sportslogos.net/2014/12/...tball-culture/

Only good things about the Boston Celtics short-sleeved grey Parquet Pride uniforms? They're grey and have the famed parquet court pattern along the shorts.
