Default Melbourne United 2016/17

I'm a bit surprised there isn't already a thread running on MU for the coming season. It's not as if they've been inactive in terms of player signings!

Perhaps it's just a sign of how little people actually care about this franchise.

I wonder how far over the soft cap this team is going to be. does anyone have any idea of the salaries of the players that are on the roster? I don't even know what the contract lengths are for the players who were on the roster at the end of last season. Currentyly, it looks like this:
Cedric Jackson 2016/17
Chris Goulding 2017/18
David Barlow 2016/17
Tai Wesley 2017/18
Majok Majok ?
Nate Tomlinson ?
Igor Hadziomerovic ?
Todd Blanchfield ?
Chris Patton ?
Owen Odigie ?
Will they use Wesley as a starting 4? Boti Nagy has David Andersen all but signed, sealed and delivered, so you'd have to imagine he'd start. That's the only roster spot that's open.

Will Barlow or Blanchfield start at 3? Blanchfield will probably have to spend some time at 2, because I can't see Hadziomerovic getting a huge amount of court time.

Any thoughts, anyone?

I like the depth and options on this roster

Two pass first PGs, one a game changer and the other a solid back up who led the league in assists when injured teammate gave him the opportunity to start

Wings- two scorers who can hit jumpshots or create their own shot, and two long guys who can drill 3's

Bigs- Two scoring PFs, both with wide ranging offensive arsenal, one specialising in low post work and the other a world class stretch 4 who could play 5 in the right situation too. Two hustle bigs who play with energy around the hoop. One a strong positional defender and defensive rebounder, the other's pre season form shows he can finish.

Nice mix.

Why have Melbourne United moved away from using Margaret Court arena? I wasn't able to witness any games played there, but it seemed like a great fit for NBL. Are United drawing crowds more than Margaret Court capacity (7,500)?

Hisense just doesn't produce much atmosphere due to the highly compromised design. I had expected Margaret Court arena to be much better due to continuous wrap-around seating plan, steeper seating inclines, closer average distance of seating from the court, and a smaller volume of voids.

United have one game planned at SNAHC for January 1, while looking like a cardboard stadium, produced a deafening atmosphere. For anyone that went to a game at Margaret Court arena, how does the atmosphere compare?

If anyone is after a good laugh have a look at sportsbet MVP odds, Nate Tomlinson at $41 is a cracker. Surely there is absolutely 0 chance of Tomlinson winning the MVP, it should be more like 4000-1 chance. There are other players with outrageous odds too. CJ at $11, lol.
