Another season, another championship near-miss for the Taipans.

Near miss is very very kind.

A near miss would be a person running for the train platform and the door shutting as he got there.

Cairns stayed in bed.

Regardless....I would certainly consider a season, where Cairns spent a modest budget amongst big spends, were projected to be spooners and at one stage were (spooners) before picking themselves up and securing 2nd, a resounding success.

I can really see Mitch McCarron rising to be as important as Gliddon.

Gliddon
McCarron
Loughton
Weigh
Weeks
Nate

Thats a decent core to build on, they were able to get second with an On and Off Trice and Egwu and Mitchell. Imagine if they scored some funds from Luxury tax redistributions and got 1 or 2 studs?

Yeah, I agree, a nice success for the Taipans and anyone saying otherwise is crazy. Sure, had ran out of everything in the Semis and was outmatched by a seasoned playoffs team, but surely this was a record season of number of times they scored 80+? That's got to be something...

Fearne showing again his off court quality as well, being able to recruit McCarron, although apparently there wasn't much competition, but he had the vision to be building that relationship from back when he was in college and it will definitely pay off...

Gliddon, Loughton, Weigh, Weeks and McCarron all with 1yr left and most likely not of the type of player that could be super tempted to go elsewhere, and Nate with 2 years left, is a really great core...

You'd think Jeromie Hill would be sniffing around his home town team and I think could be a really good fit and would definitely come with a lot of pent up energy and a point to prove after this last season with the Kings...

Three new imports again next season, or maybe persisting with one or two?

Would really love to see Nnanna back for another season. Improved virtually every game, shocked the crap out of the opposition on occasions when they left him wide open and he just said "Screw you, I practice 3 point shots all the time!" and left everyone flat footed. Didn't take too may of them, but from memory he only missed one all season.

Great sense of humour, too. Was one of three nominations for Coaches Award, got and said to the assembled audience "The other guys never had a chance!" Brought the house down

100% agree with everything you wise sages have said.

MacCarron was really a standout, it's impossible not to be impressed with his approach to the game and how much he improved as the season went on.

I'm all in on Nnanna as well, even with the silent n that makes no linguistic sense.
