Great shot by Snell but poor, so very poor a choice to take Richards and O'Hea out.

How do you leave O'hea and Richards on the bench when Screen, Bishop and Harrower are all to scared to take a shot. Graf has managed to coach the instinct and flow out of this group. And Harrower is being made to look very slow. If only we had someone with some spark and passion who wanted the ball and wanted to shot, poor Erin Philips she could have got a couple of free tracksuits and a holiday in London like Macleod and Hodge have got. Graf is being made to look very ordinary.

They were lucky to make it to OT.

Went to shit in the OT, the morons could score 1foot away from the Basket or make Free Throws, simple stuff really.

France's clock management was woeful. Should've killed the clock at the end of regulation up three, missed a layup instead. Then started killing clock with a minute and a half left in OT.

Did the Opals even hit the rim on half their threes?

Yes, half sounds about right.

If only we had a tough & athletic WNBA starting calibre guard who was shooting > 50% from outsuide the arc this season that we could have included in the team huh. Could have been useful.

It is aimless garbage but looks just the same as 2 years ago at the Worlds, Australia deserve another failed campaign for keeping Graff as coach. Surely this will be her last gig as Opals coach. Bring back Tom.

yeah why do we continue to snub the best coach in the wnbl ??

he'd be all over those girls if they got sloppy at either end ...... of the floor that is ..

C'mon Daevo. You can't expect Casey to know every little minor detail, like what the score is.

I dont follow WNBL or WNBA a great deal, but the frustrating part of watching the Opals is everytime a player gets called for a foul they get sent to the bench... I know we are struggling with foul trouble but surely we need to let our best players remain on the court longer rather than sub every minute.

Officials are calling a lot of late calls I have noticed also, to go along with some very soft calls.

The first thing to admit is that France played efficiently and effectively. The Opals were hard pressed to shutdown the high screen action. Both teams did bring an amazing defensive effort but tne French were just to smart and getting smarter as their confidence grew.
Australia does not have an equivelent on court leader of Dumerc's standard or, including Phillips, a dynamic world class backcourt pairing. Gomis shot the lights out both onball screens an when left alone.
I certainly question the recent Australian fad of everyone gets to play in the first quarter. The Opals got off to great start but 4.5 minutes into the game the subs started to flow which of course stops the team flow. I wish there was a stat that revealed how many subs were made in a game for. Regardless of the foul trouble, Graff constantly did her best to stop any game continuity. Richards came on and was dynamite but was dragged off when perhaps she could have given us a chance.
I have to say that the refereeing was acceptable and based on FIBA the smallest contact draws a whistle. (here in OZ it is the opposite) The Opals have to adjust or there could be further heartbreak down the line. The chance to avoid the USA before the Final will now be a real struggle.
We were outplayed and out coached it was as simple as that.

Watched from 39-51 onwards. I don't watch a lot of women's ball but Harrower was a liability towards the end. A point guard who's no threat to score, I thought the Wildcats had all of those?

Was also surprised to see her there at all - she seems to have been around for 20 years, and must be pushing 35+ by now.

A dark day for the opals. Those in the know knew we were realistically only aimin for silver. Those who had been critical of Graf's selections and allotment of minutes to the old guard (Screen, Harrower, Snell) saw something like this coming months ago.

Snell and Harrower have had 2 shockers, Harrower has lost complete confidence in herself and won't take a shot. Our guards need to score at will. They have to have the confidence to take shots when teams concentrate on denying the ball into our talls. Richards, Jarry, O'hea should see more minutes that Screen, Harrower, Snell.

WHOA, Harrower has never been a prolific scorer but a world class organiser and defender. Snell was a major stand out shooter in this years WNBL and in the pre Olympic games. TMK should acknowladge thea mazing in your face defence the frog ladies displayed. Agree that our other 3 guards should have not been bench yo-yos but Graf set them that role and we paid the penalty

Foul trouble is irrelevant. It always amuses me that coaches think the best way to avoid having to sit a player on the bench is to sit them on the bench.

too many subs. The team on the court could never get "settled". Unsettled team leads to more fouls.

sam richards scores consecutive baskets and is subbed out.She Looked most likely to score again.
WTF??????

PointyBits - Harrower was well above 20+ ppg for a number of seasons in the wnbl on her way to winning the MVP. She COULD score alright - just unfortunately a shadow of her former self.

As an opals fan I have acknowledged both players are former champions. Graf has for some reason but her faith in these two players - they are coming to the end of their careers. Their productivity has dropped away significantly over recent years. Others are at career best form : Richards, Jarry, MAcleod, Phillips.
Yet Graf gives the minutes to Snell and Harrower????

This should at least put a fire cracker up everyone's rear end (including Graf). Hopefully we see a hunger in every players eyes - we haven't seen it yet this campaign.
