That makes more sense, considering how one-sided the other games have been.
BTW, I am not really involved with the Tigers, I know someone very well who has been involved with their dealings with the State Government, which is how I got a bit of an understanding of their ownership/financial situtation in recent times. |

Here is my view on the Tigers line-up.
G TJ Campbell - Darryl Corletto G Eric Devendorf - Bennie Lewis F Tommy Greer - Lucas Walker F Cameron Tragardh - Matthew Burston C Luke Neville - Wade Helliwell Gee I hope Campbell is a standout. The Tigers have a poorly balanced roster to me. 3 genuine centres and Tragardh who is a PF but spends time at C with Wollongong and is a poor defender and interior presence. They also have 3 genuine SF's who cannot really play another position. Lewis is young and promising, Walker is a great athlete but not a great student of the game and Greer is a strong, hustling Tiger who earned his stripes in the star studded Tigers teams. Corletto will need to help out at point guard and let's hope Syracuse star Eric Devendorf can provide the scoring he did at NZNBL and at colllege. He was a real bomber from down town. Campbell is a standout athlete but is young and inexperienced. If he flops the Tigers might end up near the bottom. |

The Tigers have said Tragardh will play the 3 (LOL), so maybe:
G TJ Campbell - Darryl Corletto G Eric Devendorf - Bennie Lewis F Cameron Tragardh - Lucas Walker F Matthew Burston - Tommy Greer C Luke Nevill - Wade Helliwell

In terms of actual depth I think it runs more like this:
PG: TJ Campbell/Eric Devendorf/Darryl Corletto SG: Eric Devendorf/Darryl Corletto/Bennie Lewis SF: Tommy Greer/Lucas Walker/Cameron Tragardh/Bennie Lewis PF: Cameron Tragardh/Matthew Burston/Tommy Greer/Lucas Walker CC: Luke Nevill/Matthew Burston/Wade Helliwell/Cameron Tragardh As crazy as it sounds it looks like Trigger will have to play some 3 unless Lewis and Walker have breakout seasons.

Trigger was on court alongside Nevill and Burston for the 2 minute highlights vid of one of the recent games in England.
Half of me thinks Westover is a psycho, but the other half can't wait to see what happens!

I'm with you in looking forward to see how it pans out. I want it to work, as It'd be pretty tough on the Tigs if they take consecutive season spankings. Despite what many think, the last thing the league needs at the conclusion of the season is for the Tigs to drop out. |

Considering that the 3 is exactly the same as the 4 in a zone defence, all Trigger really has to do to be effective alongside 2 other bigs is shoot well enough from a bit of range to keep the defense honest. Of course this also poses the problem of opposition presses when you only have 2 ball handlers to complement the bigs. So in theory, it could work. In practice, I expect that the Tigers won't be running with 3 bigs too often.

The problem is that the Tigers have no one who can press up front to allow the other 4 guys on the team a chance to get back and get into the zone. Playing zone and forcing everyone to go through the middle is all well and good but in this league teams will just blow by them before everyone can get back in time. You need a stronger, athletic defender like a Vukona or a Gibson to make that strategy work. I know Devendorf is a horrible defender and I haven't seen anything of TJ Campbell, but at 5-9 he will have a lot of trouble in that role.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I'd like to think that this is a lineup where Bennie Lewis will get a chance to shine. He has a long way to go, but if he manages to make good on his potential he could be a star within this roster.

Given that Lewis and even O'Hea got minutes last year I would imagine Lewis and Walker will get a few at the 3, as well as Tragardh. Also I'd like to see a 3 guard line up at times (TJ, Devendorf, DC).
Given that we have no true backup PG, Devendorf and Corletto must be on together when Campbell is on, so they can help each other bring the ball up. Probably also not a good time to have Tragardh at SF. Look, I think the Tigers haven't made the smartest roster moves going with 3 Cs and a big PF, but I'm not prepared to say it will suck just yet. Let's give them at least 5 regular season games before we pass judgement. We should dominate the rebounds and that will go someway to overcoming our lack of quickness. I think the longer 3 point line and narrower key should help a bigger line up too. Also I think our bigs should play very physically (it won't matter if one or two get into foul trouble each night), particularly Helliwell, who can reprise his foul machine role and would be the biggest bodied of the four. I'm not saying go out and hard foul on every possession, but they should use their size going for boards and contesting shots under the basket.

Devendorff is a combo-guard, so he can do some of the ball-handling. Oh how Al wished he could have hung onto Crosswell.

Will be interesting to see how they go on the boards. Pittsburg outrebounded them by quite a bit, and while that was very early on, the conditioning was low etc so not too much can be read into it, sometimes when big guys have to chase out to the perimeter defensively they dont have the mobility to get back to contest the boards.
As J-Mac said, we really just have to wait and see. I think they will be Jekyl and Hyde, depending on which team can impose their style on the game each night. They could dominate a team one night, and be run off their feet the next. I do really like the variety in the rosters this year, make the match-ups fascinating. |
