Good passing is best learnt at a young age. It's most important that the youngster wants to pass otherwise there'll be little progress. However, to stand out from the pack, the student of the 'art of passing' must have inately superior spatial awareness and eye-hand co-ordination. This cannot be taught.

I agree & disagree yes most of it is taught & @ a young age BUT i have seen some absolutley natural born ability in this area over the years & currently know of a young child with this ability but it also depends on the enviorment they were bought up in also.
You get some kids who have not even played junior club ball, then decide to join a club at age 17/18 and just have that raw talent! It’s awesome to watch!

Neither.
It's learnt but not taught.
Can't be actively taught.
You can teach people the mechanics, get the feel right, but true passing ability is finding/recognising the hole and putting te ball there.

You are born with athletism and raw natural talent. The people that make the NBL have desire. Only shooting and defense are taught.

I'd like to consider myself a natural passer, I can see behind my back pretty well and can usually hit with pretty good pin point passes. That's about the only thing I can do exceptional though :? I'm really got at getting the rebound and nailing a team mate making there way to the basket.

Awesome mate. I reckon passing can be taught and learnt.Basically anything in bball and even in life can be taught and developed with the right program, hard work, PRACTISE and passion.

You can develop and improve your fitness, agility and athletism and get it to a superb level. Doesn't mean you have to be born with it.

But I remember a NBA guard who was noted for his exceptional passing years ago saying that when he was young, he used to walk down the streets trying to see out the side of his head without turning his head. He said this helped give him "inately superior spatial awareness" (although I can't remember him using those words!)

but good passing isn't just about eye sight, though it is a big part.. you need to have your eyes alert and you need to know when to pass,
You can teach a player technique, you can teach a player to make better choices, but you can't teach a player instinct, vision, or creativity.
It's the same in all team sports, some people read the game better than others & it gives them more time & seemingly more space to do things that others can't or don't seem to be able to do.
It's evidenced by a guy like Jason Kidd or Steve Nash - they have an exceptional ability to see the game unfold around them and make a difficult pass look simple.
Granted it helps to have talented receivers around you who can finish what you create, but if the question is simply are good passers born or made - then I have to say they are born.
Just as exceptional athletes are born with the qualities to run faster or jump higher, a good passer is general blessed with good vision, awareness, temprament etc...
I think you can teach passing ability. It comes from knowing the offensive system, knowing where your team-mates are and when to look for them. You can teach a player when to look, where to move etc, so it stems from that. One of the hardest things to teach though
