As much as I am looking forward to the upcoming WNBL. I think it will be a lean year for the Caps unless they can get a few new signings. Bishop is out until December, Michelle Cosier (nee Musslewhite) is pregnant and thus out for the season and Michaela Bennie is out and focusing on her university degree (not a big loss IMO).

They have signed Nicole Romeo from Washington Uni as a backup to Hurst. But looking at her stats, she did very little with her time there.

Abrams and Beatty arn't getting any younger or better so without any new big signing, I think a championship for the team is highly unlikely :(

Romeo will be good. She had a couple of other clubs chasing her and obviously went to Caps for the opportunity to learn from Graffie.

Friends are telling me that one Carly Wilson is mulling over (if she hasn't already decided) about a move to the nation's capital. Wouldn't do any harm to her opals chances too

According to Canberra's Sunday Times, Carly Wilson is signed, sealed and will be announced tomorrow. I believe that is the Caps Roster completed for season 2009/10.

Dene, if this Wilson deal goes ahead, the Caps will start favourites again, if they aren't already. I can't see them struggling too much, even without Bishop and Cosier. I think it will be a break out year for Tolo, she was brilliant in the finals last year and showed futher improvement in the opals squad, plus Hurst and Bibby will be inspired thanks to Opals selection. The Caps still have great depth and versatility and IMO, are still the team to beat.

The Wilson signing is great to hear and IMO. Although a SF, she will probably be able to play a bit of PF to relieve Tolo and Beatty. I think, with Cosier, this would be a pretty brilliant team. But without, I think they will fall a bit short against a Sydney team with Batkovic, Porter and Smith just to name a few.

Also, with Bishop being injured until December, it will probably take her a while to get back into shape and form, so I'm not too sure what the season will bring for her.

Time will tell, I guess.

Has Caitlin Rowe signed with Canberra, or she she still with the AIS or another team for that matter?

There was already a Canberra 09/10 thread so why another one?

Dene - Caitlin Rowe has left our shores and is headed to Gulf Coast Community College in Florida wher she will spend the next two years.

Gulf Coast CC previously had fellow Aussie, Ashley Kelly on their roster from 2007 to 2009. Kelly recently signed with with NCAA Div 1 program, Southern Miss. During Kelly's time at Gulf Coast they won a NJCAA (Junior College) National Championship.

Yep, It's official! Carly Wilson is now part of the Canberra Capitals for the 09/10 season. I think she will be a big contributor and should fit into the Capital's system pretty well. As I stated before, she'll probably be the starting SF but could definitely play in the post if needed.

That's a starting lineup of:
C Tracey Beatty
PF Marianna Tolo
SF Carly Wilson
SG Kelly Abrams
PG Natalie Hurst

*Bibby will probably be the impact player off the bench.
(Of course Bishop will be in the starting lineup when she recovers from injury, but for now this is how I see it.)

I think Adelaide will certainly have a good crack at making the top 2 with Hammonds and Camino on board. But Gahan was such a big contributor to the team, I'm not sure they have enough to win the title. Could be very wrong though.

Bulleen will also be brilliant as they got very close to winning the title last season and now they've added Cambage and have a super coach in Tom Maher. They will definitely be in the top 3 barring injuries and could well win the title.

But Sydney is still the team to beat in my eyes. I mean Canberra had the "strongest team on paper" last season. But I don't think that is even close to the Flames outfit now.

C Batkovic-Brown
PF Porter
SF Afeaki
SG Smith
PG Butler

This is a super lineup and with players like Domkins and Potoki coming off the bench, I just can't see this team struggling barring injuries and chemistry.

isn't camino done? i had heard that she blew up the same knee that had a reconstruction a while ago. i thought she was out for most if not all of the season at the very least.
