It's playoff time. First round match ups are:

EAST:
Cavs(1) v Pistons (8) [Season series Cavs 3-1]
Celtics (2) v Bulls (7) [Celtics 2-1]
Magic (3) v 76ers (6) [Magic 3-0]
Hawks (4) v Heat (5) [Hawks 3-1]

WEST:
Lakers (1) v Jazz (8) [Lakers 2-1]
Nuggets (2) v Hornets (7) [Tied 2-2]
Spurs (3) v Mavs (6) [Tied 2-2]
Blazers (4) v Rockets (5) [Rockets 2-1]

Predictions for the 1st round?

I've got:

EAST:
Cavs in 4, 5 if they're lucky - AI has been listed on Pistons roster, but they won't stop the MVP.
Celts in 4 - It's playoff time. They stood up last year, and I can't see a young Bulls who stumbled across the line (7-3 in last 10 games) shaking them too much. But then again, ATL last year...
Magic in 5 - I expect DH to destroy Philly inside in this series. Who's gonna stop him? Dalembert? Surprisingly, he hasn't scored much (15.7ppg) v 76ers this year, but was mostly in foul trouble. He did do it at 56% fg and has been well rested over the last week.
Heat in 6 - D Wade will be too much for the Hawks to handle. But then again, ATL last year...

WEST:
Lakers in 5 - I expect Jazz to steal 1 in Utah as they have been 33-8 at home, but they are a miserable 15-26 in someone else's gym.
Nuggets in 7 - A tough one that I'm still not sure about. Hornets have been struggling through patches, but can run with anyone when in form.
Dallas in 7 - Another tough one. Dallas are rolling right now, but its the Spurs. They are built for this. With Manu, its Spurs in 5 or 6, without, Mavs win the coin flip.
Blazers in 6 - Curse of T-Back... or is it Knee Mac? If this Blazers team pick up a solid point guard this Summer and can keep their young core together, they will win a title within 3 years, even if Oden only becomes a solid role player... Fun to watch and easy to support.

2nd round closer to the tip.

Rockets will smoke the Blazers. They're pretty much the worst possible first round match-up for them... I reckon they'd have a better shot against the Lakers or Nuggets than the Rockets.

Rip cared at the start and for most of the game, he just had a game to forget with key plays not going for him. If I were to point the finger at 1 of the Pistons guards it'd be Stuckey, not Rip. You could see Rip's frustration in him a lot that game... you could also attribute a lot of Rip's 'laziness' to Stuckey as well since Rip noticeably stopped cutting at times throughout the game aligning with some curious decisions by Stuckey. Personally, I'm not convinced Stuckey is a true point guard... I think he's just a scorer who's most comfortable setting up at the top...Which is part of the reason I think Bynum was left out there even when he was clearly done.Someone definitely needs to wake Sheed's arse up though... and nice sucker play by Sideshow Bob to get a tech on Johnson as well...Time for Joe D to blow this shit-stack up and start over...

I did alright but didn't expect the Bulls to trouble the Celtics as much as they did but then again they still had Powe at the time and I went a bit pear shaped in the Denver/New Orleans series. Denver will push Lakers to seven but will ultimately fall short in a blowout in game 7.

Orlando will steal game one, and win the series in seven.

Howard will destroy the Big Z, and will alter enough of LeBrons shots to keep him in check (keep him to 30 a game is in check).

Lebron will shutdown either Lewis or Hedo but can't stop both. Rafer should find running the point a little easier this series and Lee & JJ will get theirs.

Add to that Pietrus finding his range and getting his spark back, and Gortat should have a field day with Clevelands bench bigs.

This is a perfect matchup for Orlando.

So Dwight is going to simultaneously shut down big Z AND be coming across from the weakside keeping LeBron in check? You know LeBron isn't Kobe, right? If Dwight plays off of Z that mid range J is his game and Bron knows it. Z's a worry for Dwight because of that... he's not going to slow him down defensively but he's going to have to play him fairly honest.

The biggest worry for the Cavs is if the Magic come out and Dwight destroys Z on offense (his post game is overrated, as great as I think Dwight is, so this means guys finding Dwight for points) once or twice and the Magic shooting the lights out in 2 or 3 games agaisnt the Cavs defence. Frankly, I can't see it happening. Especially since LeBron is going to get calls (you know he will) like only he, Kobe and Dwyane Wade can....

This Cavs teams have been killing teams in 3 and benching their starters for crying out loud... even if they went to 7 with their players missing 4th quarters they still wouldn't be tired. Orlando had to pull it out in 7 over, frankly, a disappointing Boston side without KG that still would have been a shadow of their former selves if he DID play.

Let me preface my response with the fact that I am an Orlando homer who has been put through absolute magic mediocrity for so many years that my opinion is obviously biased and formed through rose coloured glasses.

However, I think Dwight can do both, from memory he did exactly that in the second game in the regular season against Cleveland. His freakish athleticism allows him to sag off shooting centres to still offer weakside help, and get out to the big man if he does spot up for the shot. Some of Dwights blocks appear to come from 2 metres away from the shooter (clear goal tends) but they hardly ever get called. Also, Dwight seems to get away with camping in the key. Dwight doesn't need to block shots to alter them, just the knowledge that he could be there makes a heap of players rush the layup, or pull up early to try an off balance jumper.

Orlando seem to play their best when they are up against the likes of the lebrons, wades, and kobes. These guys always get their share of points (and calls) but this year it hasn't been enough to beat the Magic.

Anyway, my opinion is more hope than anything and only time will tell what's going to happen. I just hope that Magic put up a good showing.

That might be one of those Jordanesque moments that people look back on for years to come.

Congratulations to Anthony Carter who still managed to wind up with a negative +/- in a win of that magnitude.

Also, congratulations to George Karl for using Anthony Carter so sparsely so that the Nuggets could get a win of that magnitude...

Is it my imagination or is Dahntay Jones VERY lucky to not get chucked out of the game?

He probably figured that if a two handed push in the back on someone in the air going to the basket is ok then a deliberate trip is ok as well. But a two handed swipe at the ball that happens to graze a guys headband is a flagrant 2. If someone did to me in a scrubs game what Jones did to Kobe I'd break his jaw.
I thought NBA refs got paid a lot of money? If that's the case then from what I've seen in both conference finals series the old "pay peanuts and you get monkeys" is a load of shit. There's plenty of monkeys getting a lot more than peanuts.

The retrospective flagrant is a pussy move. Call it during the game, or not at all.

So someone trips Lebron and he hits the floor and breaks his jaw but the refs miss it.....you don't do something about it on review after the game?

The league got this one 100% right and fixed the errors made by the officials, both in rescinding the flagrant on Bynum.....which clearly wasn't...and giving 1 to Jones.

I'd love to see The King do it, but I fear the Cavs are screwed.

Cleveland really doesn't have an answer to cope with Dwight Howard and his style with how it helps Orlando aganist the Cavs. Cleveland's sports suffering continues...

Memo to the Denver Nuggets: You had the Now Deservedly Crumbling Evil Laker Empire right where you had them up until the fourth quarter (a 15 point lead would've been nice), but then you had to take those ill-advised three point shot attempts (I'm looking at you, J.R. Smith). Also, Pau Gasol got away with fouling out Nene with his elbow, just another thing the NDCELE does (dirty tricks) as they oppressively march to another (undeserved) Western title. Your shot selection reeked last night in the second half. George Karl says if you played with a determination in the first two quarters, the fourth can be yours to take the series back to Denver and eliminate the Now Deservedly Crumbling Evil Laker Empire. You won the rebounding battle and get Linas Kleiza more time in the rotation. But then you turned ice cold letting that Head Emissary of Evil take over at the other end. You even let Odom step up too?! Use better judgement starting tomorrow and in Game 7 during crunch time. Plus, get inside the lane more to nab more free throw attempts.

Yeah....tough luck buddy. Go the Magic ....we want home court advantage. Lakers all the way!!
I don't mind Mello and most of the Nugs.....but JR Smith and Jones (disgrace to Duke) are wankers and I'm glad to see them lose

Should I support the Magic or the only NBA player to ever stop me one on one?

as talented as Gasol is, i cant give him any credit as a basketballer; he is soft & its like watching a soccer player dive and flop to con the ref's into fouls. He is a joke of a player. Be a man and play the game tough...
